Kenyan design and produce hand-woven Saddle Blankets using the highest quality local wool and mohair sourced straight from Northern Kenyan sheep farmers.
The women in Rwanda, who work for Handspun Hope, create high-quality skeins of yarn and hand-knit luxury garments using the wool from our own flock of Merino sheep and German Angora rabbits. We also offer yarn made from Ethiopian cotton, hand spun on
drop spindles by a women’s cooperative in Ethiopia. The yarn is hand dyed using natural dyes that are extracted primarily from native Rwandan plants such as cosmos petals, eucalyptus bark, onion skins and avocado pits. Handspun Hope is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation (FTF), an establishment that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to fair trade principles and sustainable training partnerships by creating opportunities to alleviate poverty. Our initiative has been fully vetted and found to be in complete compliance with the strict standards held by the FF.
The women employed byHandspunHope receive above-average salaries, a safe working environment, healthcare, and access to daily group and individual trauma counseling as well as other benefits.
